Saving throw vs. ridicule…failed!

Despite my complete ignorance of their deadlines, Gamegrene was kind enough to post my second article. I’ve learned some things since then, and probably would have written more had I not wanted to meet that deadline, but there it is nonetheless.

Yeah, I’m a big nerd, but I’m not alone. All you slashdot hipster-geeks out there, ph34r the OG(M).

Superhero disguise kit.

My glasses finally arrived today. To explain the upheaval and wanton destruction these particular spectacles caused in my home life would be so raw it would actually get me banned from the internet. But let me just say, Weezer had better find a new gig. I look so emo, they call me Philips.

Word around the web production department is that I look very “techie” now. I hope that’s a good thing.

I’ll need new words with which to blaspheme.

Linus helped me define myself today. I wish I was closer to Islam and farther from Scientology, but my buddhist nature reveals to me that I mustn’t wish at all.

You’d think that Buddhism wouldn’t lend to jaded railings about comic book superhero movies, but you’d be wrong. I mean, just look at that score. And I’d be a Jain if I hadn’t murdered thousands of silverfish last night.

1.?Mahayana Buddhism (100%)
2.?Theravada Buddhism (96%)
3.?Unitarian Universalism (96%)
4.?Liberal Quakers (91%)
5.?Jainism (80%)

Stories? No. Funny links? No. Humour? Not really.

1. Grab the nearest book to you, turn to page 18, line 7. Read what it says:

“batch is equivalent to at -q b -m now.”
But I’ve never read that book.

Inevitable.

There are probably 100 things people who read this site (even if they are close friends) don’t know (about me, the site, etc.) and might want to. This will probably be a rotating feature somewhere at some point. And I will likely edit and edit this as I get sick of my own description. For now, due to low creativity and passion, it will be a simple post.

Illusions of allusions.

I’ve noticed that the majority of the entires I’ve written recently have related in some way or another to comics. Strangely, though, I own less than twenty of the things.

I like many of the characters and the stories that these modern dramatists create, but I shun the collecting aspect of the hobby. I can remember almost all of the operatic sagas of my favorite characters even just hearing them from friends. And, not to cast aspersions on those talented illustrators and writers, my imagination tends to fill in the gaps of my need for heroism.

Which comics could I not live without? I’m glad you asked. These links were just hanging out with nothing to do and I told them they could be all hover pseudoelemented under this paragraph.

The Maxx, issues 1-4.
The Tick, issues 1-12.
The Sandman: Game of You.

How to rock in 3 easy lessons.

The greatest man living today returned from Scotland recently, and I had the opportunity to lay down some beats over which he created music. His family was gracious as always, and his sister was also home, which meant once again there were two Nelsons in the band. We refrained from Gunnar comments.

As I later would explain to his parents over the dinner table, Bjorn and I have a certain natural rhythm* to our meetings. We greet, exchange a few quick quips, then dive head-first and headily into what has become known as “the rock.” (Sean Connery impersonation or otherwise.)

Then we chat a little more while we decide if we want to play any covers. Eventually, we do play covers**, and then when my drumming muscles feel drained, we talk philosophy until his parents inevitably become so wonderfully hospitable that we cannot resist.

In short, last night relaxed me, being filled with creativity, exercise of a sort, and conversation so stimulating it is illegal in several states. Thanks, Bjorn.

* – no pun intended.

** – last night’s list included Too Good to be True, Bird on a Wire, So Cruel, How Many More Times, White Rabbit …and many many more!

Media junkie.

A co-worker of mine who clearly hates me and wants me to get fired introduced me this morning to Netflix on a two week free trial. I have rated 250 movies in my first hour of work and my queue already frightens me. Not just in quantity, but in quality of films.

“Yes, I do want to see Johnny English,” my brain says, “And Sinbad was probably underrated.” I hope the mail carrier isn’t a film major.

Netflix is, however, getting my eyes on some films I should have seen but was too lazy to actually rent. Why rent Waking Life or Ran or American Splendor, which might actually challenge me, when there stands the mighty Conan the Destroyer? I’ve only seen that 6 times after all.

Blogging…in a nutshell

Fantastically busy this week, what with Freezer Jam, building a drool-worthy speed machine for my father and siblings, and trying to actually earn my pay over at the old HD.

Forgive me if the blog suffers in the next few weeks. There will be two stories to tell, but when? It’s a mystery.

Welcome, Diana. We’ll hang out later.

Diana lkasdhkf Shimon: born ~ 5:45 p.m., 2/21/2004.

Mother still referring to her as “it” (i.e., “I’m just glad it’s out.”)

Father’s attempts at normal sardonicism failing in glow of fatherhood. Freak-out conversation in bar in near future expected with 80% probability.

The Shimon brood expands by one. The world braces itself for domination.
